Please delete all my comment. Part is in your post, part is not true. Re rezzing it didn t work anymore. Nor should, as baking without turning keep scale on will always use the full color range.

Sorry for the comment and for my work here. :)

This post was a good help. TY.

Also, if I am right, I could add another tip around sculpty resolution. I am dealing with boat sails and for a realistic little "belly" you can get into trouble with resolution and have some distortions, especially those ones looking like more or less light on some parts.

Object dimension X was 0.5 m. OK, I have exaggerated it to 5 m but kept same prim dimension in world SL. That gave me more X range on sculpty baking and same, quite better in fact, result in SL.

(I can send a picture of both situations if you'd like to add it here)

Hi, nice practice... but I am a new in Blender and sculpties. Could someone tell me how to make the 'beveled archway' before replacing vertices according the grids?

That view in particular wasn't. I'd had to move the sculpt over so that you could see the grid at all. When I go to the normal axis, the grid seems to disappear entirely, but it reappears again as soon as I rotate the view at all.
The grid seems to display the number of lines in the "lines" line in the view properties, which certainly makes sense, except that apparently it doesn't do that the way you have it set up? And it won't go over 100.

Okay, playing with it a bit more, now I can see the grid, I just have to zoom in so far that I can't really see my object. I know you already said that in response to Kayle's comment, it just didn't quite click the first time. I see what you mean now. (Sorry for the whole train-of-thought comment, but I thought maybe my process of figuring out what you meant might answer questions for other people with the same issue. A large part of the process of learning blender seems to be re-aligning how you think about the various elements.)
Okay, now I have another question.. I use the shift, S, 1 to get the selection to snap to the grid, is there any way to change the snap mode to use the grid? The snap mode elements only list volume, line, face, and vertex.
Just one more question, I promise.. (Okay, fine, I know I can't promise just one more question when it comes to Blender, but one more in my head right now.) Any tips on snapping an object to the grid if it doesn't have corners? My pumpkin doesn't match the grid quite as easily as an arch.

BTW, thank you so much for this tutorial! I've been trying to make a version of the pumpkin as a jack-o-lantern, and I'd carefully place the points in Blender to get it right, and then it would distort as a sculpty and I couldn't figure out why it was changing. This is exactly the information I needed.

Are you viewing one of the normal axis? Like.. after pressing 1, 3, or 5 on the Numpad?

I'm having exactly the same issue as Kayle is having. It doesn't seem to change when I shift between orthographic and perspective. It looks as though my settings are the same as yours, the sculpt just dwarfs the grid. Here's a screenie: http://maggiedoll.com/sites/default/files/images/blender-jass%20issue.jpg
(I just added the orthographic vs perspective labels in GIMP to show the difference.)

If you mean that the grid floor doesn't span very far, if you're in the orthographic view (press 5 on the numpad to switch between orthographic and perspective) and have your view lined up to one of the axis planes, then the grid spans indefinitely.

If you mean that the grid squares are so small that you can't see them when you zoom out? Yeah that's typical. If it bothers you, you can set up two different "screen" setups. One with a larger grid to use while you're modeling, and the other with these settings to use when you need the precision grid.

This looks like a great trick for a newbie (such as I) to learn, but I'm left a bit puzzled. Using this setup, my grid floor becomes infinitesimally small, and my prim is significantly larger, like 50 times larger than the grid. Is there something I'm missing? (Using the JASS 2.0 (Blender 249.2)setup).

thank you for this nice tut.

i am playing with Blender 2.5
there is very nice function called "smooth vertex" you have to rescale you object after the use of it. but in the end it is very nice trick too.
