Level of Detail

(LOD)

Sculpties in Second Life have an LOD property that decreases the detail of a mesh depending on several factors. This is done to help reduce client-side lag.

There are several factors that effect LOD.

Distance: The further the camera is from the sculpt, the lower the LOD will be.

Client graphic settings: If a users graphic settings have object detail higher, LOD will remain higher at greater distances.

Size: The larger the sculpt is, the more it will retain it's shape at greater distances.
