Default Settings

When you first start up Blender, it always starts up with the same stuff in the same places. The original default gives you a cube, a camera, and a light. It also starts with three divisions—the top menu, called "User Preferences," The middle "3D View," and the bottom "Buttons" division.

After a while of working with sculpties, you may have a certain setup that you use commonly. You can save this setup as your default setting.

Simply set everything up exactly how you want it to look when you first start Blender. The divisions you want, the View Settings you want, and the objects (or lack of objects) that you want in your 3D space.

Then, in the top menu, select File > Save Default Settings. Now when Blender starts up, it will look exactly like that every time.

Common Setup for These Tutorials

Most of the tutorials on this site show images with my default settings. I have my main view area split in half. The left side is a 3D View area and the right side is the UV/Image Editor. This setup is very common among Blender sculptie-makers.

Setup for Precision Sculpties

If you get much into precision sculpting, you can also save your grid settings in the View > View Properties window. Simply set up your grid before you save your Default Settings.

Typical grid settings for precision sculpts are Spacing: 0.01, Divisions: 1.
